Car Modification – Modifying Your Car – A Global Trend

Modifying your car has been a popular pastime for many years. By modifying your car you are able to put your own unique personal touches on the vehicle to make it stand out from the rest. There are many cosmetic modifications that don’t make the car run any different, but then that’s not the point 90 percent of the time! More often car modification is done just to make your car look better or give it a more aggressive race like appearance. These types of modification are simple and will make your car stand out from the rest with very little work. As for the cost of car modifications, that is an altogether different story. Parts are freely available off the shelf from companies such as Spareco, Koni and Spax. For example you can buy Spax suspension, Janspeed exhausts, Momo rims and steering wheels, body kits, light alloy pedals, leather or led lit gear knobs, Corbeau race seats and even race harnesses.

Getting a new set of wheels for your vehicle is a popular choice. There are many alloy wheel styles to choose from. Another popular modification is having your windows tinted. Tinted windows can help keep the glare from the sun out and also makes it harder for others to see into the car. I.C.E or In Car Entertainment is vital to any car modification project. Enhancing your cars audio is extremely popular and the range of products and options available provide DIY car modifiers with a world of choices. Products to choose from include the popular iPod Car Adapter kits, USB, CD & MP3 Stereos and , multi CD changers, front and rear parking sensors (some have video), plus the leads, tv screens and tools required to fit everything. Leading brands include: JVC, Dension, Panasonic, Connects2, Dashmount, Parrot, Alpine, Autoleads, Kenwood, Pioneer & Sony.

Today car navigation systems such as Motevo, TomTom, Garmin and Pioneer navigation systems are key ingredients when modifying a car. Even satellite or GPS Navigation systems come in hundreds of shapes and sizes. The main types of in-car navigation systems are in-dash mounted navigation systems, portable GPS systems, hand held systems, motorcycle and marine systems and finally the remote navigation systems where the GPS system is plugged in to your car radio for instance. When buying a new GPS system its often better to opt for higher resolution screens as they make the map information easier to see. Large memory and a decent control chip make for smooth and efficient operating, the last thing you need is slow loading and in accurate positioning. Most GPS systems have large touch screens, working with a stylus can be tricky so it does help and lastly pay particular attention to how visible and mobile you wish your model to be. If it’s a permanent fixture in your car then bigger models are great, but if you need to take it in doors after use, a smaller model may be the answer. Car security is a factor not only when modifying your vehicle but also when insuring a car with lots of expensive audio equipment in it. Phone you current car insurance company and find out what you can do before your insurance starts costing you more. They will no doubt also require an upgrade to your car security system and there are simply so many companies out there the likes of Viper, Tracker and Clifford. They all sell various systems such as standard car alarms, remote car start systems and GPS tracking systems. GPS stands for Global Positioning Systems. Professional fitment is recommended and car security shoppers should always insist on a certificate of fitment from the dealer fitting the car security system.

If you want to give your car a sporty look without spending a fortune you can have racing mesh fitted for the front bumper of your car. This looks good and can also improve the airflow around the engine compartment. “Eyebrow extensions” is another way to customise your car. These extensions are usually plastic and are fitted to your car’s head lamps. You can get these in a variety of colours and are relatively inexpensive. Car engine mapping is also relatively cheap to have done and performance gains can be substantial. It is recommended that you have engine mapping performed by competent, well known companies as they are best able to advise you of other crucial safety features you should improve when doing so. Up-rated brakes being one of them and more expensive tyres make for better high speed performance and traction to handle the additional engine power. Consider upgrading the oil you use in your engine when you have this done and use an high quality performance air filter, fuel filter and also replace all perished water and oil hoses frequently, if you haven’t already done so. Engine mapping or chipping is basically re-programming your cars CPU and it is given new instructions on how to fuel your engine. The more power you ask for the more gas / petrol your mapping will request along with other parameters such as increasing the airflow to the engine by tricking the motor into thinking the air is colder, this produces more power. All this power comes at a cost though. Most cars that have upgraded their engine management systems do so for more power, not efficiency and in doing so use more fuel and rev higher too. Cam belts should be replaced more frequently and if you plan any engine modifications have a word with the manufacturers about what you plan to do.

There are many things that can be done to modify a car. An entire industry has been created by the need for body styling, engine tuning, lowered suspension and big bore exhausts. Any part of a car can be modified and making modifications is a statement of individuality and personal style. The most popular cars for modifying are usually small, low insurance group hatches. Always update your car insurance company with the latest modifications to ensure your cover is not withdrawn due to something you thought may be ok which they do not. Other insurances like car breakdown cover and gap insurance cover should not be affected by modifying your car, unlike your car warranty policy which will almost certainly be affected. Give your car warranty company a call and make sure your cover will still be provided before you make any changes.

Famous Cars

Some modified cars have become popular because of being in a film or on a TV show. Some are noted for their superior performance and some are known for the celebrity driving them. Below are a few of the cars that are considered icons today.

1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Fastback was the star of the 2000 film “Gone in 60 Seconds.” In this film the car does some unbelievable stunts, including jumping over 15 feet of cars.

1963 Volkswagen Beetle became famous in the “Herbie” series films. Herbie was a little Beetle with a Porsche 356 engine who gave the big boys a run for their money.

1969 Dodge Charger became a muscle car icon through the television series, “The Dukes of Hazzard.” It had a confederate flag painted on the roof and the doors were welded shut. The modified Charger R/T, called the General Lee seemed to be always airborn.

1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was made popular by the television series, “Knight Rider.” The modified Trans Am known as KITT was a hyper intelligent crime fighting automobile. This car could do everything including, see, hear and smell.

1974 Ford Gran Torino was made famous in the television series, “Starsky and Hutch.” It was a powerful muscle car with a 351 Cleveland and 4 barrel Holley carburetor. It was driven hard by two California detectives in the series.

1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was made famous in the series of “Smokey and the Bandit” films. It was a powerful 6.6 liter 200hp muscle car that everyone wants to own.

2003 Mini Cooper S-R53 was made famous in the 2003 film, “The Italian Job.” This little mite packed a supercharged 1.6L Tritect engines and was involved in some intense chase scenes.

1979 Ferrari 308 GTS was made into an icon by the television series, “Magnum PI.” The mid-engine V8Ferrari was featured in the original series. The show and the amazing performance of the 255hp GTS made people flock to the nearest dealer to buy one in the 1980′s.

There is a downside to modifying your car. If you don’t have a specialist or someone experienced in modifying your particular make and model of car, you may be wasting your money. You need to select the right combination of modification to gain the most out of your car. If you select the wrong combination you will have spent a lot of money for nothing. Another thing you should remember is modifications to your car may affect the warranty. It will also make your insurance premiums higher. You also have to be aware that some engine modifications can violate regulations and emission laws. You have to make sure that any modifications to your car are safe and won’t disrupt the reliability and stability of the vehicle. Sometimes modified engines are often touchy and require premium fuel.

It is easy to get caught up in the whole modification process and end up modifying the car too much. The rule of thumb should be; less is more. Otherwise you will spend huge amounts of money, which could add up to more than the car is worth. Also, if it is over modified it can be hard to sell and most dealers won’t offer a deal to do a trade in for the car. Just keep these factors in mind when you are going to modify your car to express your style and personality.

Enjoy your new car!

The Volkswagen Golf

Just recently, I’ve been looking at these cute cars and I’m thinking of getting one with some OEM Golf Hubcaps on it – I mean, have you seen how cute the cars are? It’d be a totally different driving experience compared to my 4 Runner, but I know it’d be better since the Golf gets better gas mileage.

Fun Fact: The Golf wasn’t always the Golf, it was called the Rabbit before – with Factory Rabbit Hubcaps. Nonetheless, the Golf Hubcaps are just as nice and reliable as the Rabbit ones; so you have nothing to worry about.

It was first released in 1974 in Europe, then it was released here in the United States about a year later. Ten years after it was released here in the U.S., they changed the name to “Volkswagen Golf”. After they had completed selling about three different generations of the Golf to buyers in America, I guess Volkswagen felt bad for some reason and they changed the name back to the Rabbit for the United States Market.

What’s funny is that for some other reason, Volkswagen changed their mind again! Now it’s back to the Volkswagen Golf with OEM Golf Hubcaps – I wonder if they’ll change it again.

Here’s the description of the current Golf that’s out now: it’s just a simple compact hatchback that you can buy in either a two-door or four-door body style. No matter what style you decide to buy, the Golf is powered by an amazing 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine that produces 170 horsepower. It has a five – speed manual transmission that’s standard and the automatic transmission is optional; and if I were to ever buy the car, I’d go with the automatic one.. I don’t want to mess up my transmission even if I “think” I know how to drive manual.

The TDI model has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel that’s capable of producing 140 horsepower. This is the model that doesn’t have the option of coming with an automatic transmission; therefore, I’m not even thinking about getting this model. The car gets about an impressive 34 MPG – this is the EPA-estimated combined fuel economy number. The TDI model even has OE Alloy Wheels, a suspension that’s sport – tuned, a Bluetooth option, and an upgraded stereo that has a touch screen interface and an iPod interface.

I mean, how much better can this car get?

Even if the car is a regular little compact – hatchback car, there’s nothing really like it. When I started looking into it, I liked it because it was totally different and even the Original Golf Hubcaps had given it some flavor. It’s one of the few cars that’s great on gas and very, very stylish – or that’s what I think.

I think that the only thing with this car is that since the engine it has it’s so strong for a small car, you can see it in how fast your gas wastes – so if you like driving fast, try to just try slow or just look at getting another car.

If you were to ask a car expert, they’d probably say that the car is fun and easy to drive. Since the car has so many options compared to a typical hatchback, that’s what made it stand out the most.

As far as golf magazine in circulation goes, Golf Digest remains the most widely read monthly golf magazine. Made available in print by an American media company Advance Publications, this monthly digest concerns itself on golf topics in general flavor. While Advance Publications do circulate specialized golf digests like Golf for Women, Golf World, and Golf Business, Golf Digest remains their flagship when it comes to the golf arena.

So successful was it that ultimately, Golf Digest’s biennial rankings are regarded as an actual basis rate as far as every golf course go since its inception at 1985. The Golf Digest’s ratings are considered legitimate too, since the entries are voted on by a board of several distinguished golf experts. The most successful qualifier is the Pine Valley Golf Club, who topped the list every time except on the 2001 ranking.

Golf Digest also produces lists of the best new courses, the best golf resorts, and the best golf course in each state.

Golf Digest Magazine offers tips and secrets in golf equipment, starter instructions an techniques explained in articles and even an instructional video, news and top stories about the present and recent tours, feature articles on just about anything but regarding golf, travel suggestions towards the best golf courses, and of course -Tiger Woods. Golf Digest can also be accessed by web http://www.golfdigest.com, where online golfing content are available for browsing.

Golf Digest became a branded circulation because it covers comprehensive issues about golf. A few other golf magazines feature comprehensive critiques, commentary, issues, reports, rumors, and stories about golf, all mixed in a flavorful manner. Golf Digest subscription is offered at $14.97 and the first time customer receives two risk free trial issues along with two free tips booklets. Bushnell Yardage Pro GPS Review

While the Yardage Pro GPS for golf is very new to the market, Bushnell has been making optical devices like binoculars for many years and has a great reputation for quality products with excellent customer support.

Staking this reputation to their first product in the golfing GPS market the Bushnell Yardage Pro GPS is aimed very much at the golfer who cares to know just the basics: distances to the front, center and rear of the green.

The Yardage Pro is a no-frills golf GPS system.

At first look the unit has quite a refreshing look to it with a clear and crisp display that displays its information in a very simple manner.

Maybe because this system is so simple and straightforward to use it can easily deliver on the promise of reliable systems and accurate data.

Weighing just 11.9 ounces makes it light to carry and not so bulky as to get in your way while playing your round if you want to carry it on your belt. The Yardage Pro comes with a Li-lion rechargeable battery and is supplied with a charger.

The bundled software is compatible with Windows computer operating systems only. So if you have a Mac or similar computer you may need to look for an alternate golf GPS system.

Unusual for a golf GPS the Bushnell Yardage Pro includes a 100mb hard drive built in with a USB port for syncing with your home computer, all of this allows the unit to carry information for up to 10 golf courses at a time and has a built in score card! The bundled software allows easy updating of the course data syncing with Bushnell’s online data system.

While writing this Bushnell Yardage Pro GPS review we struggled to find reliable consumer feedback about this unit since it is so new to the market. Don’t let this put you off if you are looking for a back to basics system that provides a simple and easy to use interface, Bushnell’s quality name is enough to make this unit worth a try. It should be a great choice for a low cost golf GPS which is capable of giving you the simple yardages that you need to help lower your score.

Golf Travel Case

Having a bag to put in all the things you need for a trip makes it more fun. Otherwise most of the time goes trying to pack all the stuff, be it clothes, shoes, and accessories into separate pouches and packing them into the suitcase. This does work, but occupies a lot of space and can get cumbersome, especially if the trip is going to be more than just a couple of days. For people who play golf, they will know the importance of having a golf travel case to pack their golf clubs, and other required accessories into it. Some of the factors to keep in mind while shopping for golf travel case are,

Space

How much space does the case have, and what are the various compartments it has. This will help you determine if that case is what you need. Also make a list of all the items that you will need to carry if you want to play golf at a different location, or during the tournament. This will give you a clear idea when you go shopping. For those, who insist of carrying their own set of golf clubs on any kind of journey, the case needs to have adequate space. Some of the travel cases have facility to carry clothes enough for an overnight trip.

Easy handling

Make sure the travel case you pick up for your golf clubs is light weight and can be moved around easily. The material used to make the case must withstand the weight of the clubs and protect them as well. If you are a frequent traveler, you should be able to carry and load or unload the case into and out of the vehicle. Check if the case has a shoulder strap, using which you can carry it on your shoulders. This will help reduce burden while going from one place to another.

Cost

If you have made up your mind that you need to pick up a golf travel case, make sure it falls within your budget. There are some cases which are good, and not very heavy on the wallet, like the deluxe golf cases, and others that come with a price, but have the same features. If your case has skid proof base, wheels that work on any surface and a shoe or garment bag within them, it is worth the price quoted. Just make sure you know what you are buying, and try it out before bringing it home.

Most of the companies that manufacture or market golf travel cases make them available on the net too. You can simply login to their site, choose the case that you like and take it from there. Strong, quality latches that holds the case together, and good rivets that makes it safe to put the case along with check in baggage is what makes some of them better than the rest. They are available in multiple colors, and can be chosen and the purchase made.

Golf Cart Heaters

Golf cart heaters are part of the important accessories that golf cart owners would like to have. They give a lot of comfort on a chilly morning or late evening and it has now become a must have for a golf player. Their use becomes more predominant in the icy winter months. There are a variety of compact cart heaters available. The small and mid sized ones mostly run on propane, while the larger more expensive heaters are powered by the main electrical circuit of the cart.

The smallest heaters are usually made of stainless steel as well as other metals. They are normally mounted on the dashboard. This variety of small cart heaters are relevant for the use throughout the winter months, but in countries which have particularly cold climate through most part of the year, there will be the need for a mid range or large cart heater.

Electric heaters are used to uniformly heat larger area. They are easy to handle and install, are technically sound and run on the power of the golf cart. The biggest advantage with them is that they eliminate the need to get propane cylinders. The power of electric golf heaters are usually forty eight and thirty six volt, their only disadvantage is the high cost involved.

There are also cart seat warmers operated through carts main electrical circuit. These are an easy and convenient way to heat and can be great on the back seat of a four passenger cart where the dash board mounted heater may have trouble reaching.

The importance of golf car heaters can be envisaged in the fact that they have become an accessory that cannot be avoided especially so when it involves the comfort of the user.
