Golf Sense – "Playing Golf in the Zone" Book Review

I was scanning around the internet and came across Roy Palmer’s website. After reading through some of his website information about playing golf in the zone I decided to email him and ask for an opportunity to review his book and test some of his ideas out.

Without any hesitation Roy sent his book and within 4 days I was reading it.

Golf Sense – Practical Tips on How to Play Golf in the Zone is a NON GOLF INSTRUCTION BOOK. So don’t buy it if you are thinking of improving your golf in a technical mechanical sense.

Golf Sense provides the opportunity for any golfer at any level to become much MORE aware of what the body is doing at the moment of truth……just before and during impact.

What we are thinking of just before we decide to release the club head has a pronounced effect on the result of the shot. I use “The Clear Keys technique” by Rumford which works exceptionally well to put this part of the puzzle on automatic.

However before you can begin to put things on automatic you must have a technically good and consistent golf swing. What Roy demonstrates through his book is that most golfers have developed BAD habits that have become automatic and most golfers are totally unaware of them.

As adults we do many things automatically without ever thinking of them and this especially applies to the way we move our bodies. On page 47 there is a great exercise that you can use to become aware of the muscles and joints that make getting out of a chair much easier.

This may seem like it has nothing to do with golf and in away you are right. But the point of the exercise is really to understand that by a learned habit we are using our bodies in a very inefficient way and we have accepted it as being normal as it feels right and normal.

For example if we go into our golf stance and are happy with the way it feels I can just about guarantee you that by using one of Roy’s exercises you will uncover tension in parts of your body that have a serious effect on the way that you can swing the golf club, that you would’ve never thought you had.

See you have become comfortable with your stance based on habit… yet your body still holds much tension without you being aware of it. I am absolutely serious when I say you think you are relaxed and tension free BUT YOU are NOT.

There are some very simple exercises in the book that will test your concept of feeling tension free. The exercises will instantly provide you with feed back about your negative habits that you have developed without you being aware of them.

I carry my golf bag on my shoulders and used one of Roy’s techniques to walk much easier without effort. This simple understanding of how to walk properly is an example of what we think we know to be right we don’t. See our bodies have been accustomed to a habit that is controlled by the brain.

We must unlearn these habits so that our bodies can work in a more efficient and effortless way. Roy provides the keys for all of us to do this in very practical way and results will be instant.

It is all about living life in the moment or the now. When you are living in the moment you are actually in the zone where performance levels will be substantially improved.

There are many spiritual books about the “now” which I know would put off the majority of male golfers…to weird and way to sensitive. Golf Sense – Practical Tips on How to Play Golf in the Zone provides a simple recipe of getting into the zone without getting to airy fairy (getting too deep).

When you become aware of your thoughts and your bodies behaviour during your set up and finally your execution you will be miles ahead in regards to becoming a better golfer. Being technically correct and brilliant, by itself does NOT guarantee success.

Being aware of your mind, body and spirit is the secret key for success. This book will provide the lessons for the first two and your spirits will soar when you see the results of following the lessons in this book.

Ok… after reading the book and putting some of the exercises into practise I went to play with our normal Saturday morning group. I had a plan to stick to everything in the book and even changed by routine and did no use my “clear key.”

First tee a par 4… I drove the ball straight down the middle, 2nd tee par 4 again I hit the ball straight down the middle… my playing partner just looked at me and said “your swing is so effortless.” That was confirmation enough for me to know that the changes I had made consciously were working.

I ended up shooting 75… 40/35 which I was happy with as I had a double bogey and missed a couple of putts.

Some of the small changes I made were being a little more aware of bending from the hip, most of us have an idea where our hips are but NOT exactly. Bending from the hips is fundamental to a great stance and this by itself will provide you with greater flexibility for movement.

Roy reveals one very common problem that golfers do out of habit that affects the result of the golf swing most probably more than anything else. This problem also exist when we go to lift objects or even if we are sitting at a computer all day. Our shoulders involuntarily shrug or raise up during a lifting motion.

In a golf swing this one move is fatal as the club will automatically be taken off plane. The solution that Roy provides to eliminate this “habit” will without a shadow of a doubt reduce your scores as your shots will become more consistent.

I don’t have any hesitation in recommending Roy Palmer’s Book “Golf Sense – Practical Tips on How to Play in the Zone.”

The Art of Golf Instruction

Have you ever taken a golf lesson? Surely you have gotten a golf tip. What do you remember of that lesson or that tip? Golf is a funny game; you can hear a great tip and put it to work for a few days, or even a few weeks, but then it is gone. It is gone and you are back to floundering all over again. I have learned not to pay too much attention to golf tips, but I got some very good golf advice once and I would like to share it with you.

I have had a lot of golf instruction in my life and most of it is of minimal efficiency. What I am about to say is going to sound radical, but I think that golf pros spend too much time on golf technique and not enough on golf art! Who teaches the art of golf anymore? Have you been to an instructor today? They put sensors all over your body and film you from two sides and then measure angles such as degree of hip turn, shoulder turn, knee flex, and on and on. I know that teaching the swing has value, but come on; the golf swing is not that hard. No one ever taught me to swing a baseball bat (well I was shown a few times), and yet I had a stellar high school career. No, today more than ever we need to learn the art of the game. We need to learn how to play golf not what to do. Just like baseball they taught us how to cover your position and how to run the bases, we in golf need to learn how to play the course. Like a painter who can make the brush come alive by how and where he puts his brush strokes the golfer needs to consider not only how to make the golf stroke, where as well. Golf is a skill yes, but to score your best you need to paint the course with smart decision making and that is the art.

I used to play regularly with a fellow who always shot 80 or 81. His best rounds were 77 or 78, but his bad rounds were never higher than 84 or 85. If you bet his score before the round, you would do best to guess 80 or 81. This guy was Mr. Steady; his scores did not deviate much at all. What was this all about, I wondered; how is he so consistent and the rest of us so up and down? Some of you might think that of course he is consistent, he shoots 80! Well, 80 isn’t that hot, I mean it is good, but lots of players are better than that, but few more consistent. So I analyzed his game and something stuck out to me, like a sore thumb.

This guy, let us call him Rodney (since that is his name), was a most consistent player, because he intimately knew his limitations. Early on when I was playing with him, I always thought it odd that every time he hit it in the trees; he would chip it back to the fairway. Don’t get me wrong, I am not talking deep in the woods, I am talking in the trees, with a shot you could easily hook or fade out of and gain substantial yardage. He was a pretty straight hitter, so he never got too deeply into trouble, but when he was there, he took the absolutely safest route out. I mean come on, this was a good player a guy that shot many rounds in the 70′s, he knew how to fade and hook the ball. But that is not how he played, he knew he was a good enough player he could chip out, hit the next shot on the green and make a par or bogey. On par threes he would always take plenty of club, rarely missing the green short. Off the tee he would hit the fairway, using an iron if need be. He was a great chipper, because he played safe chips, not too many flops or risky stuff, chip and run if at all possible. A boring, boring player, but a partner you could count on not to take a big number.

I think that whether you are a 25 or a 5 handicapper, you need to learn to play golf. Rodney has fun playing boring golf and you will too. Low scores and winning never get old; instead lower scores make the game so much more enjoyable. Have you been there in the grill room, when one of the guys says, “you won’t believe the shot I hit from the woods on 13 today” and the first remark is “yeah, but what did you shoot?” Learn to play golf; it is an art not a science.

Used Golf Carts

There are many advantages to purchasing used golf carts over buying new golf carts. For one, many time golf carts up for sale have been used very little and are nearly as good as brand new golf carts. The main advantage to the individual considering buying used golf carts is the great deal of money that can be saved.

The main advantage of used golf carts to the environment and community is the recycling of useable goods. This decreases waste which aids in keeping landfill loads minimized, not to mention the reduction of waste from the fewer golf carts that will be manufactured.

So used golf carts are better for the environment as well the pocketbook, but how exactly does one go about finding used golf carts that are for sale? If you already belong to a country club or utilize a public golf course, this would be a great place to begin in your search. In fact, many times these types of facilities are looking for ways to get rid of their older equipment in order to make room for newer golf cart models.

Used golf carts bought from a country club or golf course are optimal sources for used golf carts for many reasons. One, these types of business are among the most likely to be in the market for new golf carts at any given time; as they go through more golf carts in general, they will be most likely to lend an ear to your quest for used golf carts -particularly is you are a regular customer or club member.

Secondly, golf courses and country clubs are viable sources of used golf carts because at these places of business, it is important for their golf cart vehicles to be kept in tip top condition. This means that the maintenance keeper responsible for servicing the facility’s golf carts will also maintain the vehicles according to a regular schedule of checks that will catch problems before they adversely affect overall performance.

In fact, the only way that a fleet of vehicles can be maintained over any amount of time is to adhere to a schedule of maintenance such that every vehicle’s major systems are checked at regular intervals. If a country club or public golf course is a reputable or well established business, you can be pretty sure that their used golf carts were maintained on a regular basis, and as such, one can expect that they will last longer than less cared for units.

Though you can also find some fair deals on used golf carts at online auction websites, I advise going through a local supplier, such as the method mentioned above. If you do not have one of these potential sources of used golf carts though, don’t be too quick to dismiss online auction houses. Look for a link to their ‘advanced search’ page and input your location, as well as how far away auction items may be located from you in order to show up in your search results of auction items.

You never know until you look. You just may find an awesome deal on a nearly new golf cart or fleet of gently used golf carts in a little town fifty miles from your town. In many cases it can be well worth arranging the additional nuances of a transaction with another individual this way. It is a good idea to take a friend along or perhaps even hire a freight company if you feel uncomfortable about dealing with someone you haven’t met before.

I highly recommend at least seeing what there is available online before deciding on a purchase at a local retailer or second hand from a golf course. This is also a great way to inform yourself about the various models, price ranges, features and long term maintenance information.

Golf – Buy The Right Driver

One of the most important golf clubs in your bag is the driver. It’s the longest hitting club you use out on the golf course and it is also the most expensive club you carry.

For most all golfers, hitting the driver and keeping the golf ball in the fairway can be quite challenging. It takes a lot of practice and control to achieve consistency. The driver can either be your best friend out on the golf course, or it can be your worst enemy at times. This is why it is important to purchase the right driver for your particular golf swing and skill level.

What should you look for in buying a new driver? The answer to that depends on your playing level. Are you a beginner, or do you have a low handicap? A driver that works well for a beginning golfer wouldn’t work well for the more accomplished golfer. Here are some tips to look for when buying a new driver.

Club Head

If you are just starting out playing golf you will want to look for as big a head on the driver as possible. You want a large sweet spot that will help you on miss-hits. It gives you more of an opportunity to drive the golf ball down the fairway instead of popping it up, or topping it on the ground.

Golfers of all levels can gain more distance from titanium heads. Titanium is a lightweight and very strong material. Its lighter weight gives you increased club head speed, which results in being able to hit the golf ball farther. Titanium will also give the beginning golfer, or high handicapper, increased control over a steel head. One big benefit to buying a driver with a steel head is price. Steel heads are much cheaper than titanium.

Loft

The degree of loft in your driver is very important and often overlooked by most golfers. If you are a low handicap golfer, a driver with 9.0 – 9.5 – or 10.0 degrees of loft is what you’re looking for. Those golfers who are just beginning, or higher handicap golfers should look for drivers with 10.5 or higher loft angles. The higher loft will make it much easier for you to hit the driver.

Shaft

Another important aspect in choosing the right driver for your game is the golf club shaft. It seems like there is every kind and color of shaft out on the market today. To keep things simple for you the club pro would likely recommend either a steel shaft, or graphite. Titanium shafts are very nice, but are also very pricey.

If your golf swing is less than 100 MPH, or you’re a beginning golfer, you should look for a more flexible shaft. Golfers with a lower handicap will want to go with a stiff shaft in order to have more control.

Graphite shafts are much lighter in weight than their steel counterparts. This can be a real plus for the beginning golfer, or higher handicap golfer. The less weight, the greater club head speed you can produce. This adds up to more distance from the club. Keep in mind though that graphite shafts will cost more than steel.

Buying a new driver is an important decision for your golf game. By following some of these tips you can know more of what to look for before making a purchase. Buying the right driver can dramatically improve your golf game and have you driving the golf ball farther than you ever have.

The Golf Swing Jacket May Help Your Swing

A golf swing jacket is a piece of equipment which can help you to correct your swing. It is better than trying to change your swing by yourself as it physically restrains your arms, meaning that you have to use other muscles.

This is much easier than trying to change your swing by your self as you tend to go back to your old ways – it can be very hard to break the habit. Not only does the swing jacket stop your arms from moving too much but they have a special design which guides your arms into the correct positions required when swinging.

By using the jacket you can help to improve your muscle memory unconsciously and so when you practice you do not have to try top remember the correct swing. A lot of people find that it can improve their game a lot and it is easier than other techniques that they have tried to learn.

It does look rather awkward though and may not be something that you would want to wear outside of the home. When you get back out on the golf course you should find that your game has improved considerably.

An alternative way to change your muscle memory is to exercise the muscles that you use when you swing at the ball.

By improving the flexibility and strength of these golf specific muscles, you should find that your swing will improve without the need of a golf swing jacket or other expensive golf equipment.

Do you want to discover the secret to creating more power and consistency in your golf swing… AND eliminating ALL your swing faults?

Golf Training Aids

The golf industry has taken a new movement in the 21st century. There are thousands of companies marketing golf training aids these days. The reason behind this would have to be that the majority of golfers today are average golfers. These golfers cannot afford the expensive lessons from the golf pro’s, so most turn to training aids in which they can watch a video and use a device which will help improve the mechanics of their game. These inexpensive replacements for actual lessons can be good and bad, depending on the traing aid you choose.

With so many products on the market which one do you want to invest in? Here is a detailed list of some the best training aid products out there.

1. Leaderboard – A product use by over 40 Tour Pro’s like Stuart Appleby, K.J. Choi, Adam Scott, Zack Johnson, and many more. The Leaderboard will train your body to make consistent golf swings that have increased power and accuracy.

2. Practice Like The Pro’s – A four DVD set with expert advice from professional golfers on how to improve your scores by improving your short game. The four disc set includes short game tips, analysis of your “scoring clubs”, key mental strategies, and easy to follow 20 minute pre game routine. 3. P3ProSwing Golf Swing Analyzer and Simulator – This training aid allows golfers of all ages and skill levels to practice the game they love in the comfort of their own home. The P3ProSwing is unlike a lot of swing analyzers on the market today. With different packages and price ranges the P3ProSwing can be utilized by both amateurs and seasoned veterans of the game.

It is made up of a driver with a patented dual hinge on the shaft. The Medicus driver teaches you to swing in tempo and on plane. When you swing the driver it will hinge when you make the smallest of mistakes. When you make a good swing the driver will stay together and you will be able to make contact with ball. The products listed are some of the most popular and highly rated golf training products on the market. While these products do not replace a professional golf lesson they will help make an average golfer’s score drop in no time and all products are very affordable.

How to Start Your Kids In Golf

Your kids are getting to the age that they would like to start to play golf and you are wondering when to start them in a junior golf instruction program. Knowing when to start and how to find the right junior golf instruction program for child are crucial components to building an environment for your child to enjoy and succeed in the game of golf.

Begin by asking yourself, not your junior, some questions about what your motivation might be for getting their junior golf instruction. Four reasons that parents want junior golf instruction for their young child (under eleven) typically are:

o Because of golf’s reputation for rules, fair play and self-policing, the parents have a genuine interest in seeing their children attempt to play the game.

o A babysitting service, parents get a time out from their kids for a while.

o Parents want to spend more time with their child and have decided that golf will be the vehicle to do this.

o As so many do, parents feel that their children must be in as many activities as possible.
Whatever your reasons are for wanting your child to begin to play the game of golf, the important thing is to ensure the kids have fun and enjoy themselves. Golf is a great game that can teach your child many life skills and is a game they can play the rest of their life.

The most important thing to do is ask your child if playing golf is something that they would like to do. If the answer is no, do not push them to play. You do need to make sure that they understand the option is always open for them to play. It make take you asking multiple times and giving them the information they need to feel comfortable to begin a junior golf instruction program.

Once your child decides that they do want to play golf here are some steps to take to get them started and to keep the game fun for them:

o Begin with a real junior set of clubs. Many people think that by making a club shorter it will fit a junior golfer. This is NOT true. The weight would still be too heavy for children. The recommendation I would make is to purchase from La Jolla Golf or LJC. They specially weight their junior golf clubs depending on the size of your child. In addition, you do not need to buy a whole set, you can purchase these clubs one at a time.

o Find a qualified junior golf instructor. You can contact your local PGA Section either by phone or online. If a Certified PGA Professional is available in your area, he or she would be a good place to start.

o Make sure that your junior golf instruction includes sessions on the rules of golf as well as golf etiquette. Depending on their age, the rules and etiquette situations do not need to be deep in the heart of the rule book. It has always amazed me on what a child at any age can retain when they want to learn.

o Your junior does not have to play a “real golf hole” to have fun. Make the putting green the goal. This is a good way for the younger junior golfers to get started and as it reads only count the shots that it takes to get to the green to determine a score.

o The hole does not need to be the end of the hole. What does this mean? Some smaller juniors find it more fun to hit it into a bunker than onto a green. This may seem counter-intuitive to many golf purists however, once you think about it, typically the bunkers are smaller than the putting greens. This can only make them better later. In addition, they LOVE to climb into the bunkers and this gives us a chance to teach bunker etiquette.

Gadgets for Golf – Gadgets and Gifts

Are you a gadget golfer that loves the latest gadget to make your golf more fun? I have to say some of the latest gadgets are pretty useful, especially the Para Golfer and the Shadow Caddie; I was taken aback by these new innovations, especially to read that they are already in service on some golf courses.

Para golfer
Have you seen the Para golfer Buggy? This is a most impressive piece of equipment. It is an actual electric buggy which has a chair lift that raises the disabled golfer upright, a leg harness secures the legs and the upper body is also supported, so that the disabled golfer can make a proper golf swing action. Then the support collapses with the chair seat taking the disabled person back to the sitting position and so able to drive the buggy after the ball. This remarkable Para-golfer Buggy truly enables the disabled golfer to pursue the passion that is Golf.

Shadow Caddie
Another amazing gadget that came to my attention is a golf buggy given the name, Shadow Caddie. This cute little buggy is not for sitting on, it just carries your golf bag and believe it or not, with no physical contact it follows you around the golf course. Obviously you carry a homing device in your pocket to control it. At the moment though you will have to make your own decision when it comes to club selection, but not having to carry your bag up and down them there hills, has to be a major plus. You could actually leave the wife at home. LoL.

Shadow Caddy is a completely new golf Buggy, except you do not ride on it you are free to enjoy your walk and concentrate on your game without the distraction of dragging your clubs around. It is a robotic caddy that faithfully follows you around the course, carrying your bags just like a human caddy, but without the on course knowledge and encouragement. You settle your bag on your Shadow Caddy and off you go, no fiddling with remote controls, you carry a transmitter with you and off you go. This Shadow Caddy is available at several courses in Australia and is now trialling in the United Kingdom at The Buckinghamshire Golf Club. I have not seen this clever golf gadget in the US yet, though I suspect it will not be long.

Golf Swing Analyzer Watch
Notwithstanding these amazing devices, along comes a Watch like no other, this one actually analyses your golf swing, Tempo, Rhythm, Backswing Length, Club head speed and it tells the time how good is that. You can monitor your golf swing whenever you play or practice, this is a must have gadget. Other Golf gadgets include of course the Golf GPS Device.

Golf GPS Devices
The Golf GPS, which stands for,[Global Positioning System,]. This is the, find me anywhere in the world by satellite tracking gadget. With most GPS units you will have to register with a tracking system, usually with the maker of the unit, for instance: Bushnell, Golf Buddy, or Ski Caddie. This sometimes results in a monthly charge as in a membership, and you will have to register the courses you play. Which means that if you wish to use your GPS device on a golf course that is not on your Tracking register, you will have to get in touch with your membership and register that course? I believe that once done, the course will stay on the system, so you will not have to re register to you play that course in a few months time.

Laser Range Finders
Yet another popular Golf Gadget is the Laser Range Finder. Here we have a device that is somewhat similar to a pair of binoculars, except that this unit fires a laser beam at your chosen target and the beam bounces back to your device which then electronically calculates the time it took for the beam to send and receive thus calculating the distance of the target, be it a flag, green, hazard or your ball position. The resulting data is shown to you through the lens vision. This device does not have to be registered as it does not use Global Positioning Systems. It is completely self contained and does not rely on any outside influences such as satellites. You just switch on point to the target, push a button and you receive the measurement required. As with all these devices the GPS and the laser Range Finders, there are many makes and models such as, Bushnell or Nikon, so you really need to do some research on the device you choose, before you purchase.

Golf Gift Ideas for Her

Looking for golf gift ideas for her? There is no shortage of choices for the avid golfer. Having trouble deciding on a particular gift idea for her? Well, bring a smile to her face with these helpful hints and suggestions that will have the golfer in your life enjoying the game even more and bragging to her friends about your thoughtful and creative gift.

It’s no surprise that golf is so popular. Originating in Scotland, it has been around for many hundreds of years. Both men and women enjoy golf and, because of their passion for the game, you should always consider including golf gifts on your list the next time you’re shopping for a great present. Here are some gift ideas to help you get started.

Essentials Golf Gift Ideas for Her

The first area you need to consider is the essentials. Essentials are what every woman needs to enjoy the game of golf and play it correctly. So, it’s always a good idea to include these items on your gift shopping list. The great thing about golf is that it is a unisex sport, so women will enjoy the essentials as much as any man would. Of course, many golf outlets also offer specific items geared more towards women, and those geared more towards men.

Some essentials to include on your shopping list are:

Golf Tees – You can choose from a wide variety when it comes to golf tees. Golf tees are relatively inexpensive. But, how about personalizing them? Have them engraved with her name or a special saying she would appreciate. Tees are also available in many different colors, including more feminine colors like pinks or pastels.

Golf Balls – Did you know that they make special golf balls just for women? Women typically find traditional golf balls firmer than they like. So, golf balls made specifically for women have softer cores and come in different colors such as pink, yellow, or even multiple colors. What a great gift idea for her?

Head Covers – These are very popular gift ideas. Head covers are available in almost any design you can think of. They can also be personalized, making them extra special. They are also available in many different colors, styles, sizes, shapes, and designs.

Golf Towels – Here’s another great gift you can have personalized. As with many of the other essentials, golf towels come in a wide variety of choices. Although an essential element, you can also make it fun by personalizing it with some fine embroidery.

Other Golf Gift Ideas for Her

Outside of the essential elements, here are some other golf gift ideas for her. How about a new set of clubs or golf bag? Or, maybe a great set of golf apparel for women is more her speed. Apparel could include shoes, sweat shirts, or golf pants. But, you could also shop outside of actual golfing equipment for fun golf merchandise. For example, the avid golfer may enjoy a golf floor or table lamp. Or, one of the many great golf gift ideas for her such as, ash trays, figurines, statues, room decor, and let’s not forget – the gift basket!

Gift baskets surrounding a golf theme are a great idea. These could include essentials such as tees, practice cups, pickup cup, first aid kit, booklets, accessory kits, golf balls, golf towels, practice balls, and even a coffee mug with a golf theme. Gift baskets are always popular gift ideas for her because they can be mixed and matched to create the perfect personal gift. Just start with her skill level, and then consider her style and dedication to the sport. If she is just an occasional player, you may just want to have some occasional essentials, along with some more fun aspects of the game, such as mugs and figurines. But, for the avid golfer, go all out on the essentials and accessories.

Great Cars Under 1000 Dollars – All-Star Profiles – VW Golf GTI

Still on the road today and ever changing since 1976 is the Volkswagen Golf GTI. This car was first introduced to the states as the rabbit and the GTI tag later became a trim level available on the VW Golf. Now in its 5th version the VW GTI has come to be known as the original hot hatch. Although today the GTI is less of a spartan and lightweight car to be tossed about and much more of a refined fully loaded vehicle it still has roots deep in the original.

These cars still have a very dedicated following and for good reason, but they are also still plentiful even in older MKII and MKI versions and can easily be had for under $1000 bucks if you know where to look.

For this profile I will be focusing on the older models that can be found for cheap (and in my opinion are the best looking) Which is mainly going to be versions MKI and MKII but who knows? You may come across an MKIII that is in need of some work for cheap.

What makes these cars All-Stars is a fairly simple formula. A small light weight design with a performance minded suspension that is simple but effective. Combine this with a simple but fun and effective 4 cylinder and a front wheel drive layout and you have a car that anybody can push to its limits. Most older GTI’s are going to be in 2.0 8v form but the much more desirable versions have 16v engines with a lot more breathing capability. MKIII’s had an available VR6 but good luck finding one for under $1000 bucks.

Like most tuner favorites the GTI has a unique ability to take on a large or small amount of mods and still provide lots of fun. If your budget permits a popular swap in the lighter and older models can be to use modern hardware such as 1.8t and VR6 engines.

Check out almost any shape or form of motor sport and your likely to see an old GTI in the pack. From auto-cross to rally racing these cars have an aftermarket that can support just about any type of motorsport your into, and if racing is not your thing the spacious interior, very functional hatch, and great gas mileage make the GTI even an awesome car for the daily commute.

A quick reminder for those in the hunt for an old GTI they come in various levels from bone stock to heavily modified and depending on your purposes and budget this can greatly effect your decision. There are still plenty of cars out there for under $1000 dollars in great running shape, but unfortunately the numbers are becoming smaller by the day so if you want one start looking and don’t wait!
